MobilePhone

As we move further in the digital revolution and as credit unions continue to focus more on the younger demo, digital communication has become a bigger deal for all credit unions. Credit Unions have been asking for a simple to use platform that allows them to engage with their members through text messaging.

Eltropy, a Sharetec partner, uses their world-class digital communications platform to help credit unions improve operations, engagement, and productivity. The entire credit union staff can communicate with members, in a secure and compliant environment, to increase engagement as well as provide relevant information and data via analytics.

Ashish Garg, founder, and CEO of Eltropy, comments, “Eltropy shares many of the same values with Sharetec, including the commitment to create products that meet the needs of the entire ecosystem of Credit Unions, regardless of size. As we continue to increase our footprint in the industry, we look forward to working with Sharetec to achieve our scaling goals.”

Several Sharetec credit unions such as Harvester Financial Credit Union have utilized Eltropy’s digital communication services to provide their members a variety of opportunities through lending, sales, marketing, IT, contact center, collections, reviews, and more! Some of the results that were reported by the credit union were:

  • User-friendly and security
  • Open communication with members
  • Increase in member engagement
  • Improved operations and productivity

“The adoption of Eltropy by the members has been quick and successful as we immediately started getting text messages on a variety of issues, including inquiries about obtaining a loan. We have seen the usage go up each week since implementation, comments Jason Ford, President/CEO of Harvester Financial Credit Union.

Eltropy is a great partnership for Sharetec because it allows our credit unions the power to connect with their members and stay competitive in a world where quick service is so important. This platform is easy to use and comes with so many benefits: workflows, automation, compliance, and security all in one,” comments Carrie Heck, Regional Director for Sharetec.

BigData Hand

There is no question that financial institutions are heavily dependent on data. Data drives many day-to-day operations and important decisions are made based on the accuracy of this data. One important thing to consider when looking into core systems is the data that is collected and produced. At Sharetec, we hear from credit unions that just don’t have sufficient data to increase efficiency and grow membership. Others we talk to have no idea what kind of data can be pulled by their system due to lack of training. Whatever the reasoning, big data is a large driver of necessary change and forward momentum to fulfill your members’ needs. Is your core system capable of producing the necessary data to help you grow?

At Sharetec, we have built a responsive system that is data-driven. We understand the importance of proper reporting and have built the system to allow you to pull reports on every data point in order to understand your operation better and make the necessary changes. Sharetec provides several tools for retrieving and analyzing credit union data including:

Results: A graphical report writer native to the operating system

Quick Query: An easy-to-use intuitive graphical report writer

ODBC: Ability to use popular productivity tools such as Excel, Access, Word, or Crystal Reports to easily create marketing materials and reports

By using the above built-in tools, credit unions are able to use BIG DATA to interpret results and take action accordingly. Sharetec believes your core should be smart enough to pull data that is crucial for your operations. The system will do the heavy lifting for you and allows you to easily look at the data that is important to you instead of you having to search and request the information that you need.

Jennifer Kutz, President of Members First Credit Union, states, “With the help of Sharetec’s training team, the staff at Members First CU, learned about all the different reports that could be created with ODBC. Over the years, we have made more than 400 reports and currently use about 50 reports consistently. Some of the reports provide information by SEG Group for board reports, the 5300, exams, and some show different information overall. What I like the best, is that with one mouse click, I can refresh the data to give me the information at that specific time. If the information is date sensitive, it is easy to change the date and refresh without having to create a new report all over again.”

Matt Isger, Regional Director for Sharetec, comments, “Sharetec is helping credit unions face the future by giving them complete access to all the data, as well as providing them with the necessary tools to understand the data. Using these big data tools, our customers can make decisions that allow them to flourish in today’s ever-changing financial industry. This is the key to their success.”

ACH Explorer Sm

Do you ever scroll through your credit union’s ACH data to see where your members are spending their money?  Everyone does this, right?  It probably doesn’t sit well when you see a loan payment going to another lender when you can offer the same loan at a better rate.  Often times credit union members have loans elsewhere simply because they are unaware that their credit union offers the same type of loans.  This is where Sharetec’s ACH Explorer module comes in.

ACH Explorer is a tool that mines ACH data and builds an outreach campaign to capture these loans for your credit union.

For example, let’s say you’re running an auto loan promotion, you can use ACH Explorer to search for keywords like “Toyota” or “Car Max” or the name of a local lender in your market.  ACH Explorer will then generate a report and an email or a letter that can be sent to the member and the report can be used for direct outreach to qualifying members.  Sharetec will automatically save a copy of the correspondence in the member’s Document Manager for tracking your marketing efforts.

Used in conjunction with Sharetec’s Metrics and Cross Selling capabilities, staff can be prompted to promote your loan special to qualifying members when they present at the teller line or call into the credit union, reinforcing your direct outreach efforts and capturing more loans.

ACH Explorer will search and filter data from twenty different fields, everything from sponsor ID to credit score and debt ratio, so you can target very specific groups.  Do you have a credit builder program?  You can target members with credit scores below 600, for example.  You can also search for credit card payments, large or even very specific dollar amounts.  There’s really no end to the possibilities!

For more information about ACH Explorer and many of our other products that can help your credit union grow, reach out to your account manager for a demo, we think you’ll like what you see!

Vacation Time Off

Many people underestimate the power and necessity of vacations and time away from our daily grind. Believe me, as someone who normally does not take much time off work (mainly because I don’t like to deal with the mountain of work waiting for me when I get back) even I know how necessary and crucial it is to have some time to recharge the batteries.

Many of us take time off but continue to work during our “vacation.” I am guilty of it, I don’t remember the last time I had time off and didn’t respond to some emails and update a few spreadsheets. This year, for the first time ever in my professional career, I took a vacation and did not reply to a single work email or worked on any of my ongoing projects. Let me tell you, it was one of the best things I have ever done for myself and mental health. In order to get the full effect of our time off, we have to really take time off and concentrate on the reason why we are away from our daily work. Whether you actually go away somewhere or just enjoy a nice staycation, the key is to understand why you are using your paid time off. You worked to earn those vacation days, why use them to continue working?

I used to come back from vacation feeling more tired than before I left. I know many of you feel the same exact way. The reason is because we never gave our brains any time to recharge and unwind. While we may be rested physically, our mind never took any time off and the stress really didn’t allow us to fully enjoy our time away. So, if you are planning a vacation I advise you to give this a try. Put your auto reply on your email letting everyone know that you will respond and take care of any issues when you return to the office. Do not work on any ongoing projects and do not volunteer to sit in on any meetings. Even though you are an important part of the team and company, things will still operate without you there for the short period of time you are gone. Trust me, unless you work at your own company where you are the only employee, there are trusted co-workers that can take care of urgent issues for you. After all, teamwork makes the dream work!

What worked for me during this recent vacation was to make sure to get everything I could possibly get done, done before I left. Anything that was ongoing or could be handled by a co-worker, I made sure was ready for them without too much extra effort. Everything else could wait until I returned. I recommend turning notifications off on your phone for any work related applications. That will ensure you aren’t tempted to answer one little email. We all know what happens, we check one email and the next thing you know you are 4 hours in answering all the emails and taking care of little tasks that can wait until next week.

By now, you get what I am trying to say. As someone who has never once not worked on a vacation, I decided to make a change this year and let me tell you today is my first day back and I feel so energized about catching up. I don’t feel stressed but feel excited to get all these tasks finished. Now I know there are some of you that will read this and you made the choice to never work on vacation, and this may not pertain to you, but let me tell you for every person that doesn’t work on vacation there are 10 people that do. Try it once and I promise you will never go back. Remember, you earned those days off so make sure you use them!
